BIDL Men’s League Playoff Semi-Final
Tralee Warriors 74-64 Phoenix Wolves
Quarters: 22-16, 20-21, 14-19, 18-8
Phoenix Wolves made the long journey to Co. Kerry on Saturday, opting to stay overnight in preparation for what was expected to be a tough battle against the defending champions, Tralee Warriors. That extra preparation appeared to pay off, as the Wolves put in a determined and competitive performance, pushing the home side to their limits.
From the opening tip-off, Phoenix Wolves showed they were ready for the challenge, staying within touching distance of the Warriors throughout the first half. By halftime, they trailed by just five points (42-37), proving they were more than capable of going toe-to-toe with one of the league’s top teams.
The third quarter saw the Wolves step up even further, displaying resilience and intensity on both ends of the court. Their efforts were rewarded as they briefly took the lead, sending a clear message that they weren’t going down without a fight. With the teams deadlocked at 52-52 heading into the final quarter, the tension inside the arena was palpable.

Although the final quarter scoreline (18-8) might suggest a comfortable finish for Tralee, the reality was far different. With just three minutes remaining, the game was still up for grabs, with only two points separating the sides. Unfortunately for the Wolves, some crucial plays by Tralee’s Aaron Fleming, combined with a few trips to the free-throw line, gave the Warriors the breathing room they needed. In the end, they managed to pull away and secure a 10-point victory, bringing an end to Phoenix Wolves’ playoff run.

Despite the result, this was a performance to be proud of for Rolandas Bartkus and his squad. They demonstrated just how much progress they’ve made since their debut season in 2023-24, proving they can compete at the highest level. With such a strong showing in the playoffs, there’s no doubt that the team will continue to build on this foundation and come back even stronger in the 2025-26 season.
Top Scorers: Jacob Byrne: 18pts.
Danny Lavelle: 16pts.
Ernestas Genevicius: 9pts.
