Werewolves Claim First Trophy in DSNI Wheelchair Basketball League!

A proud moment for the Mid Ulster community as the Werewolves secure their first-ever championship win

Our wheelchair basketball team, the Werewolves, made history this weekend by winning their first trophy in the DSNI Wheelchair Basketball League — a huge achievement in just our second season as a team!

On Saturday, we delivered two incredible performances:

Semi-final: Defeated Storm with a commanding 40–21 victory

Final: Overcame the talented Craigavon Lakers with a thrilling 28–21 win

Last season, our first ever, we finished without a single win. This year, everything changed. We entered the season with renewed energy, new recruits, and a clear goal: growth.

Our development as a team has been obvious. We started the season with a loss to the Lakers, then earned a draw, and finally, in the final, came out on top — showing the hard work, resilience, and commitment of every player and volunteer involved.

Coach Rolandas Bartkus summed it up perfectly:

"Don't take this for granted, but enjoy every minute of it — and let's prepare for next year."

This victory is not just ours, but belongs to the entire Mid Ulster community. It proves what’s possible when people come together to support inclusive sport.

We would like to say a huge thank you to:

DSNI Northern Ireland for running a fantastic league

All our sponsors and supporters who believe in us

Our incredible players and volunteers

And especially our team manager John McElhatton — your commitment makes it all possible

This is just the beginning. The Werewolves are here to stay, and we’re only getting stronger.
